The first company that works without a till was presented by MasterCard yesterday. The company is called Tennis Square, and is based in Marousi, Athens. According to MasterCard, it is the first Greek company working in a totally cashless transactional environment.
This new academy, founded by entrepreneurs and coaches Apostolis Triantis and Dimitris Filippou in Athens, owns modern equipment and infrastructure, to provide its members a fantastic sports experience.
Customers are obliged to pay by card, even when it comes to small amounts i.e. for coffee. For those who do not own debit or credit cards, Tennis Square provides a prepaid card to make sure they are able to take part in this new way of transacting. Customers with these prepaid cards need to top up their card with Euros and that can be done at bank branches. Tennis Square accepts all cards, but MasterCard users have some perks. “For MasterCard, Tennis Square is a great example of how a company deals with the evolution of transacting, and also the future of consumers’ experiences in a world without cash – what they call the world of “cashless pioneers” “, commented Mr Athanasios Geramanis, Country Manager of MasterCard Greece, Cyprus and Malta.
On the other side, Dimitris Filippou, one of the two founders of the tennis academy, notes that apart from immediate and safe transactions with their customers, “both us and them enjoy the benefits of pure transparency in the way we deal with payments. We are proud of being the first Greek company taking this step”.
